Committees

The Society of Biology has two Principal Committees: Education, Training and Policy (ETP) and Membership, Marketing and Communications (MMC).

Education Training and Policy Committee

The ETP Committee is responsible for:

  • Proactive development of a strategic policy framework across  education and science policy

  • Creation of an evidence base to underpin policy work

  • Reactive guidance and support in responding to consultations

  • Oversight of the Chartered status and developing its potential

  • Directing festival and careers activity as part of the strategic framework

  • Oversight of specialist registers and strategic direction

Membership Marketing and Communications Committee

The MMC Committee is responsible for:

  • publications  (Biologist & Journal of Biological Education)
  • external communications, member communications and media relations
  • working with the branches
  • Fellowship and membership - nominations and applications
  • Chartered Biologist status
  • Committee Chair: Sue Thorn 

Working groups, committees and staff carry out the day-to-day activities of the Society and report to the Principal Committees. 

The statutory Sub-committees of Council are Standing Finance, and Appeals Panels (as required).
