Which University?

After you’ve chosen your degree you will be left with a selection of universities/ institutions at which you can study this degree. (Although some students choose their university and then their degree afterwards). You know need to think of some ways of narrowing down your choices so that you can be left with the one which is right for you.

Study Location

Would you like to be close to home or further afield? Being close to home may mean that you can visit your family and friends at weekends and perhaps that you can live at home and commute into university. Travelling further afield may allow you to be independent from your parents for the first time in your life and can open up a whole range of new experiences. It really depends on what you want to do.

National Student Survey

There is also the National Student Survey which is completed by students already studying at university. Through it they give their views on their course, academic support and personal development.  Not all students fill these in and some surveys may not have been completed by enough people to gain precise details, but they can still be useful in forming an overview of the university.

An Easier Way to Compare Universities

Comparing universities can be easily done at the Unistats website. It provides an overview of each university. You can find details on:

  • Results from the National Student Survey.
  • UCAS points achieved by students currently studying there.
  • Degree results – number of 1st degrees awarded etc.
  • Future employment prospects.
  • Where graduates have gone onto work after completing their degree.
