Competitions

The Society of Biology supports excellence in biology throughout school and university by rewarding the top students in biology through the following competitions.

British Biology Olympiad

The British Biology Olympiad (BBO) is a competition to reward the best young biologists in the country. The Society of Biology supports a team of dedicated volunteers who organise the competition. For more information click here.

Biology Challenge

Building on the success of BBO, this competition is designed to enable pupils from all types of schools to enjoy taking part and for as many as possible to be rewarded for their participation. For more information click here.

CREST Awards

The Society of Biology supports the National Science and Engineering Competition for 11-18 year olds who have completed a project in science, engineering or maths. For details on how to enter click here

SET Awards

The Society of Biology supports and judges the Best Biology Student category of the SET Awards, Europe's top important awards for science and engineering undergraduate students. For more information please click here.

The Society of Biology Prize

We support The Big Bang Fair through sponsorship of the bioscience disciplinary Crest Award. This prize is awarded to the individual that produces the best project in the biological sciences. The winner receives £500, a certificate and an experience prize.

Top Bioscience Award

We recognise the achievements of outstanding undergraduate biology students by awarding the Top Bioscience Student Award to the student with the highest overall grade in a bioscience subject. Contact us for more information.

Bioscience Teacher of the Year Award

The Bioscience Teacher of the Year Award seeks to identify the UK’s leading bioscience university teachers recognising the invaluable role played by Teachers in Higher Education. The competition is open to all employed bioscience teachers in the UK higher education system and individuals can be nominated either by self, peer or management nomination using the quick nomination form.
