Education Policy

We believe that the key to maximising the impact of our efforts to support and enhance biological education from school to university lies in a greater degree of collaboration with students, teachers, and other science bodies concerned with education. To that end we are a core member of SCORE - Science Community Representing Education, which provides a coherent voice for the science education community on the long-term issues in science education.

SCORE member organisations are: the Association for Science Education, the Institute of Physics, the Royal Society, the Royal Society of Chemistry, and the Society of Biology. Together we recognise the importance of taking a strategic approach to strengthening science education.

With our SCORE partners, our key priorities are to:

  • address the decline in the number of young people taking A Level sciences
  • address the unacceptable shortages of specialist science teachers in our schools and colleges
  • improve the access to high quality provision of enrichment and enhancement activities in schools.
  • improve the quality of practical work in science at all Key Stages
  • provide reliable information on the fitness for purpose of GCSE science examination papers, focusing on how the examination papers assess particular aspects of GCSE science.
