Membership

Membership of the Society of Biology gives you confidence that you are contributing to the future status and understanding of all bioscience disciplines.

Membership Word Cloud

We are the leading professional body representing many of the learned societies and other organisations making up the diverse landscape of the biological sciences, as well as thousands of individuals.  Members include practising scientists, students at all levels, professionals in academia, industry and education, and non-professionals with an interest in biology. With an effective membership of over 80,000, we are uniquely placed to represent the wider bioscience community and serve the public interest.

Being a member of the Society demonstrates commitment to the biosciences, and signifies professionalism, high standards of competence and ethical values, whilst Member Organisations benefit from collaboration and representation in bioscience policy, education, and outreach to the public.

The Society has two main types of members: individual and organisational.  To ensure a fair system of decision making, these categories are represented by two Colleges: the College of Individual Members (CIM) and the College of Member Organisations (CMO).

You can join as an Individual Member or an Organisational Member.

Be part of a membership that includes some of the best-known bioscientists in the UK and overseas.
