Event description
On Wednesday August 22nd at11.00 am we have a tour of the flora and fauna of the Rye Harbour nature reserve, led by Dr Barry Yates, the Reserve Manager. This reserve lies within a large triangle of land extending south from Rye, along the River Rother, past Rye Harbour to the sea, westward to Winchelsea Beach and northwards along the River Brede. It has been designated as a SSSI because of the many unusual plants and animals that live there, especially on the shingle where the harsh conditions protect many rare and endangered species. There are also large gravel pits created by shingle extraction and these have become valuable habitats for wetland wildlife observable from the several hides. The tour is expected to last about two hours.
