Event Summary

The ABC of Fermentation Technology. A joint mini-symposium with the Institution of Chemical Engineers. Three experts will talk on the application of Fermentation in the contrasting fields of antibiotics, biofuels and composting.

Event description

‘Fermentation’ is a word with many meanings.  Probably that which comes most readily to mind is the specific biochemical one referring to a biological process that occurs in the absence of oxygen. However, the focus for this meeting is the more general sense of the word as used in relation to its wide range of applications in industrial and environmental microbiology and biotechnology, i.e. any process that involves the mass culture of micro-organisms, either aerobically or anaerobically.

The meeting will take the form of a mini-symposium consisting of three contributions in the contrasting fields of antibiotics, biofuels and composting – the ABC of fermentation technology!  The aspects covered will include the aims and technology of the processes, and their benefits both real and potential.  Our speakers will be:

Ella Clarke (Waste Minimisation Manager, re3 Ltd)

John Grainger (Formerly Head of Microbiology, University of Reading)

Edward Green (Founder and Chief Technical Officer, Green Biologics Ltd)
