Warnings for drugs pipeline from AZ contraction

AstraZeneca, the Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical company that is a global leader in medicinal research and development, and a major employer of UK scientists, has announced that it will be cutting 7,500 jobs as part of a world-wide restructuring programme. Approximately 8,000 of the global 61,000 strong workforce are in the UK and this includes a strong UK Research and Development cohort.

HE Bioscience Teacher of the Year 2012 Finalists announced

The Bioscience Teacher of the Year Award seeks to identify the UK’s leading bioscience university teachers recognising the invaluable role played by Teachers in Higher Education. The closure of the UK Centre for Bioscience in December 2011 offered the Society the opportunity to manage the award and we are delighted to be able to ensure that this Award continues despite the Centre’s closure.
Council invites nominations for next Education, Training and Policy (ETP) Committee Chair

Defra launches the Ecosystems Knowledge Network

On 9th January Defra launched the Ecosystems Knowledge Network, a resource to share knowledge or learn about the practical benefits of an ecosystem approach. The Natural Capital Initiative, one of the Society of Biology’s Special Interest Groups, is involved with the development of the network, in partnership with other organisations.
