New committee for communicating research
The Society is forming a committee to look at the broad area of the publication and communication of the results of biological research and analysis. The formation of the committee will be chaired by Sue Thorn FSB who is overseeing the development of the committee’s future remit and operation. Introducing the development Sue said:
“No-one would deny that the advent of open access and repositories has changed the landscape of research publication forever. There are also new questions and opportunities around article structure and preservation of research data. We don't yet know what research dissemination will look like in the future, but we do know it will continue to change for some time to come. However, much of the debate around open access and repositories, in particular, has been led by the library community and publishers. Their views and priorities do not necessarily match those of the researchers this system is intended to serve or the learned societies that support them. The Society’s new committee will seek to represent the views of biology researchers and societies in all relevant debates.”
