Council Strategy Day
As part of our annual governance cycle, the Society's Council held their second strategy day this month.
Top of the agenda were ways to offer improved and more wide-ranging benefits to individual members including greater engagement with teachers, sixth form students and those in the private sector. Feedback from the Fellows' and members' lunches contributed to the debate and, as a result, the Society hopes to offer some new opportunities and more bespoke activity in the future. After nearly 2 years into the Society's first business plan, it was time to review progress.
It is clear there have been a lot of success stories with an increased political and media profile for the Society, a new travel grant scheme, greater electronic communication, changes to both The Biologist and the JBE and many more biology research and policy stories available on the website. But, there was also an ambitious plan to significantly grow the individual membership. Whilst Council was delighted that the membership is no longer in decline and has started to grow a little, there is clearly much more to do here to ensure we reach out to many more biologists. We will be doing all that we can to make this happen over the coming months and very much welcome your help and support along the way. Please do tell colleagues and friends about the Society.
