Practices and Approaches for the Integration of Teaching and Research
Practices and Approaches for the Integration of Teaching and Research, is a project funded by the National HE STEM Programme and led by Imperial College London. The aim of the project is to identify and disseminate practices that help academic staff manage and integrate their research and teaching roles.
The project is looking for accomplished researchers (e.g. individuals with a strong publication record and international reputation in a STEM discipline) who are also widely recognised as outstanding teachers. Perhaps you are one of those individuals or you are able to supply some names of colleagues/peers who meet these criteria for teaching excellence:
- teaching awards / prizes or other similar recognition
- leadership in major teaching innovations
- significant publication(s) in teaching and learning
The project is also collating current institutional practices that support new lecturers by addressing issues that specifically concern the research-teaching balance and / or research led / informed / based / oriented teaching. Any information (or contact) that could be provided on this would be of great value.
Outputs from the project will directly target academic staff and staff involved in the teacher training of new lecturers. Ultimately, the adoption of the identified practices is expected to benefit the student learning experience, especially in research-intensive institutions.
Currently several (academics from) universities are involved in the project, including: Coventry, Durham, Exeter, Leeds, Liverpool, Loughborough, Newcastle, Nottingham, Sheffield (Hallam) and Plymouth. The project would like to include a wide range of views and practices so please get in touch if you would like to get involved in this project.
The plan is to carry out case studies from September until (early) December and all responses by 21st September are taken into careful consideration for inclusion in the project. Please respond to the Project Officer, Rianne Verschoor (r.verschoor@imperial.ac.uk).
