Vince Cable - Higher Education Speech

Released on 16 July 2010

Business Secretary Vince Cable has urged a rethink on how universities are funded and what they are expected to deliver. Speaking at South Bank University in London, Dr Cable set out his initial views on the university, and wider, HE sector and his aspirations for it.

“A commitment to strong universities is not the same as a defence of the status quo or of current levels of state support. I said we need to think radically so I don’t think we should be sectioning off areas from debate at this point,” he said.
