Honorary Fellow Jane Goodall - celebrating 50 years of work

Released on 16 July 2010

Dr Jane Goodall, one of our Honorary Fellows, is of course famous for her work on chimpanzees and it was 50 years ago when she started her research on a specific population in Africa. Gombe National Park in Tanzania is the site of the Research Centre and home to one of the longest continuous studies of great apes in the wild. This site is where Jane first began her work in 1960.  The Centre's mission is to operate a world-class research station in which the best scientific methods are used to continue and develop the long-term primate research. The Centre’s primary goals are: to advance basic science, support conservation, and train Tanzanian scientists. The research conducted there is of interest across disciplines, including animal behaviour, anthropology, behavioural ecology, biomedical studies, conservation biology, psychology, and zoology.

The BBC went out there to interview Jane, and you can hear this on their podcast.
