Biology is a top choice for A Level Students

Released on 19 August 2010

The Society of Biology is pleased to see the increased numbers of students taking Biology AS and A Levels, ensuring that Biology remains one of the top 5 subject choices for students in 2010. British biology is at the forefront of bioscience world-wide, as it has been for the past half-century and more, and to continue in that enviable position it needs a new generation of enthusiastic young biologists studying to A level and beyond.

Rachel Forsyth, Head of Education, of the Society of Biology said, “Biology is at the heart of all we do: the science of life. With a choice of over 90 different subjects at GCSE and AS/A Level, as well as a range of vocational and entry level subjects, it is encouraging to see so many young students continuing to opt to take biology. I hope that many of these students will continue their studies and over time will contribute to maintining the UK’s position as a hub of biological excellence.”
