What inspired you to be a biologist?

Thank you for all the entries to this year's photography competition.  It was brilliant to see the different ways biology inspired all of our entrants. We received some truly outstanding entries - the winners can be viewed here.

The awards were an opportunity for you to celebrate what inspires you about biology. There were two categories of award:

• Photographer of the Year - Prize £1000

• Young Photographer of the Year (under 21) - Prize £500

(There were additional prizes for runner up and highly commended in each category)

Entries closed on 19^th August 2011 and the awards were presented alongside the Society of Biology Science Communication Awards at a ceremony in London on 2nd November 2011. A report of the event is available here.
