Policy Interns
We run a successful intern programme for recent graduates and scientists on career breaks or considering a move into science policy. We can offer you a structured programme of unpaid work experience, for periods of 8-12 weeks (full-time, or the part-time equivalent), with hands-on experience of delivering a policy project.
Past interns have secured science policy jobs at the RSPB, Wellcome Trust and Academy of Medical Sciences, or have gone on to research or training posts.
You could be researching and writing policy papers, articles, press releases, position papers or responses to parliamentary inquiries or government consultations, or helping to organise workshops and seminars.
The placement may include visits relevant to your policy project, for example to select committee hearings, policy meetings, press conferences or meetings with MPs, government departments and other policy bodies.
This is an opportunity for a research scientist to broaden their experience, improve their CV, communicate science to a wider audience and find out whether a job in science policy is something they would like to pursue.
Internships are flexible - tailored to your interests where possible, and can be part time. We are unable to offer a salary for interns.
Please note that we don't normally accept policy interns during the summer (mid July to early September) since parliament is in recess and there are also few government consultations at this time.
If you are interested in an internship, contact Laura Bellingan.
