At the Society of Biology’s 2012 Annual General Meeting, the President’s Medal was awarded to Dr Ruth Bastow and Professor Clive Page. The Medal is awarded annually to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the life sciences over the previous year.
Heads of University Biosciences holds its first AGM

At the meeting, the Executive Committee launched a new document on their vision and strategy for HUBS, covering conference opportunities for heads, acting as a support network for heads, and working on higher education policy and practice with organisations such as the Society of Biology.
Economists and ecologists explore sustainable agriculture

This week, a workshop organised by the Natural Capital Initiative, one of the Society of Biology’s Special Interest Groups, brought together over 50 economists and ecologists to discuss how effective collaboration between the two disciplines could improve agricultural sustainability.
Professor Blundell and Dr McGavin become Honorary Fellows

The Society of Biology has elected two new honorary fellows, Dr George McGavin and Professor Sir Tom Blundell. Honorary Fellowship of the Society of Biology is the highest grade of membership, and the election of Dr McGavin and Professor Blundell honours their exceptional achievement in biology.
University of Leeds lecturer wins Higher Education Biology Teacher of the Year

Dr Neil Morris, a lecturer at the University of Leeds, has today been awarded the Higher Education Biology Teacher of the Year Award by the Society of Biology. His innovative teaching methods and use of technology secured him the prestigious award, which recognises excellence in teaching.
GM trials at Rothamsted Research

This morning scientists from Rothamsted Research in Hertfordshire have made a public appeal to Take Back the Flour not to destroy their field trials of GM wheat.
