Heads of University Biosciences

Heads of University Biosciences is a new Special Interest Group of the Society of Biology, building on the work of the previous Heads of Biological Sciences. It was voted at the 2010 AGM of the Heads of Biological Sciences that the group should join the Society as a Special Interest group, and the new Heads of University Bisciences was formed in 2011.
The group is open to heads of departments and subject leads or nominees, and aims to represent the particular challenge of managing biological and life science departments and units in UK Higher Education (HE). HUBS acts as a forum for discussing national issues on the provision of research and teaching in the biological sciences, and as a source of informed comment on the consultations of the day which affect HE institutions delivering in the biological and life sciences. The group runs two meetings for members a year: a day long winter meeting focusing on HE policy issues; and a residential meeting in early spring, with more extended talks and debates about matters relevant to teaching in the biosciences. For more details please see the Meetings page.
As a Special Interest Group of the Society, HUBS will contribute to national debates on priorities in the biosciences, and our Higher Education policy work will be informed by the upwards of 3,000 academic specialists in the UK's academic departments.
We invite any Higher Education Institutions not currently involved to join the Group and help develop it to make it relevant to and supportive of the biosciences across the UK. For details about joining HUBS please visit our Membership Page.
